Rosemary Durkin Younes Obituary

Rosemary Durkin Younes, 64, of Narragansett, RI and Cairo, Egypt died peacefully on March 17th in Cairo, Egypt surrounded by her husband of 40 years, Fouad, her two daughters, Alia and Nadia, and her sister Stephanie.
Rosemary was the daughter of Dr. Walter Durkin and Claire Burns Durkin of Providence. She graduated from Elmhurst Academy in Portsmouth, RI and received a BA from Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY. She worked at Chace Manhattan Bank in New York City after graduation. After her marriage to Fouad, she lived in various parts of the world including London, Beirut, Tehran, New York and Bahrain before settling in Cairo in 1981. She enjoyed returning to Narragansett in the summer to reunite with her family and friends.
She was an enthusiastic member of Cairo Choral Society and was also a teacher of calligraphy to many young people in Cairo. She also was president numerous times of a non-profit organization called the Women's Association of Cairo which helped the poor and underprivileged women and children of Egypt. She was known as one of the best hostesses of Cairo and was loved for her generosity of heart and spirit. Most of all she was known for her overwhelming love of her family and animals.
She is survived by her sister Stephanie Durkin Stevens of Wickford; her husband Fouad Mahmoud Younes of Cairo and Narragansett; her two daughters, Alia F. Younes and Nadia F. Younes, her son-in-law Omar Mansour Hassan and her grandson Tarek O. Hassan, all of Cairo and Narragansett.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10am in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours Sunday 5-7pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Rescue League of Southern RI, 506B Curtis Corner Road, Peace Dale, RI 02883 will be appreciated.
