Steffany Arthea Perry, 28, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019 in West Palm Beach, Fl. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Stephanie (Salvatore) Perry and John R. Saunders. Steffany was raised by her devoted aunt Ann Caroline (Salvatore) Mooney and uncle William Mooney. She leaves behind her loving maternal grandmother Caroline (Perry) Salvatore; caring siblings Liam J. Mooney, Kilian C. Mooney, Durand J. Perry, Adam Perry, Sarah Perry, and Ben Constantino; her maternal uncles and their wives Michael Salvatore (Cheryl Schneider) and Joseph Salvatore (Colleen Haxton). Her family also includes Catherine Condon Mooney and the late William A. Mooney, MaryBeth Mooney Garafalo and Kathleen Mooney Fredette (husband Armand). Steffany was predeceased by her grandfather Santo Salvatore and brother Michael Perry. She also leaves behind many additional loving family members and friends.
A vibrant, talented and loving young woman, Steffany demonstrated from her early years an extraordinary strength of character that was apparent to all who knew her. As a teenager, she was an equestrian and worked at a horse farm, singlehandedly tending to 13 horses. In her early teens, she was a Naval Sea Cadet and attended St. Petersburg (FL) Navy Boot Camp and later apprenticed at the Naval War College in Newport.
Steffany distinguished herself at South Kingstown High School as a member of the All State relay track team and an honor roll student. She became a physical fitness enthusiast, and that passion stayed with her throughout her life.
Steffany studied criminal justice at URI before joining the US Army, where she excelled in marksmanship and as squad leader. She served as a member of the honor guard at the RI Veterans Cemetery. She then transferred into the RI National Guard and later interned at the RI State Police.
A courageous young woman, Steffany was dedicated to many causes and particularly embraced her advocacy for mental health issues. She accomplished much in a very short time and touched the lives of so many.
A living tribute to Steffany’s memory would be for each of us to reach out and be there for one another. Steff was so very loved by so very many. We will remember her for the bright light that she was, and we will carry her in our hearts always.
A visitation will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 3-6 pm with a memorial service to follow at 6 pm in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852. Military honors will be rendered during the memorial service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers please make donations, in Steffany’s name, to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health).
