Murphy, Teresa M. (Sweeney), formerly of Cranston, daughter of the late James F. and Anne M. (Horan) Sweeney, peacefully passed away on October 3. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Murphy, Jr., who was the love of her life, as were her children. She is survived by her daughters, Karen A. Lacrosse of VA, Ann M. Murphy of Warwick, Janet M. Stark of North Smithfield and her sons, James F. Murphy of NY, Joseph L. Murphy of Cranston and the late Thomas J. Murphy, III. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and her sister, Joan M. Bucklad. She was the sister of the late Ann Agnes Sweeney, Elizabeth Sweeney, Mary Clifford, John Sweeney and Francis Sweeney. Teresa graduated from Hope High School and worked at the American Screw Co. in Providence until after her marriage. In later years, she worked as an admitting clerk at RI Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul's Women's Club and a food pantry volunteer. Teresa loved bowling, playing cards and particularly, liked shopping and lunch with her friends. Teresa was proud to be Irish and particularly relished St. Patrick's Day celebrations. She had a great sense of humor, was quick with a quip and never without copies of the latest in humorous stories and jokes. Teresa's last few years were difficult and the family is grateful for the compassionate and loving care she received while a resident at Scalabrini Villa.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 8:30 am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Paul Church, St. Paul Place, Cranston. Burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 pm. Memorial contributions to Scalabrini Villa, Staff Appreciation Fund, 860 N. Quidnesssett Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852, will be appreciated.
